Starting on March 19th through September, come and enjoy the beautiful Butterfly Pavilion. This visiting exhibit will feature more flight space and resting spots for hundreds of free flying butterflies to enjoy. There will also be Gallery Interpreters located at the Butterfly Pavilion to give you more information regarding these beautiful creatures. At the pavilion, you’ll see hundreds of different butterflies including 20 species native to California such as the monarch, buckeye and mourning cloak as well as 10 species of subtropical butterflies. Don’t miss out on these beautiful butterflies! You can also explore the permanent exhibits that are located at the Natural History Museum. One of these is the North American Mammals exhibit where you can learn all about the mammals that are native to North America. These include the American black bear, the bobcat, caribou, coyote, cougar, bison, elk, gray fox, jaguar and more. A popular exhibit is the Gem and Mineral Hall that displays over 2,000 beautiful gems and minerals - many of which are native to California. Many consider this gems and minerals exhibit to be on of the finest collections in the world. Other permanent exhibits include an exhibit on birds, insects as well as the early history of Los Angeles.
